Over-under pass

A slow pressure pass: one arm under a leg, the other over the other thigh, stacking them onto their shoulders before you walk around. Good against flexible guards.

Passing Side control

The Over-Under Pass in No Gi by Bernardo Faria · Stephan Kesting · YouTube

Step by step

  1. Thread one arm under one of their legs and wrap your other arm over their other thigh.
  2. Drive your head into their belly or hip line and stack their weight onto their shoulders.
  3. Walk your hips around toward the side of your overhooking arm, keeping the stack.
  4. Slide your chest onto theirs and settle in side control.

Details that make it work

  • This is a slow pressure pass, not a speed pass.
  • Head pressure stops them turning into you.

Common mistakes

  • Letting their bottom leg free as you circle.
  • Keeping your hips high.

Drill it

Partner in open guard: 10 reps each side.
