Berimbolo from De La Riva to the back
An inverting back take from De La Riva guard. Use it when they sit down or lean back against your guard.
Step by step
- Play De La Riva: your outside leg hooks around their lead leg from the outside, foot on the inside of their thigh.
- Grip their far ankle and their lead leg (behind the knee or ankle), close to your body.
- Off-balance them: pull their far ankle and push with your hook until they sit down.
- As they sit, invert over your shoulder (not your neck), rolling under them while your hook stays on their leg.
- Swing your hips through behind them and grab their far hip to pull yourself in.
- Come up on their back: get a seatbelt and put both hooks in.
Details that make it work
- The roll happens as they sit. Inverting while they still stand just exposes your back.
- Keep the De La Riva hook through the roll. It steers their hips.
Common mistakes
- Rolling onto your neck instead of your shoulder.
- Letting go of their far hip, so they turn to face you.
Drill it
Slow entries from De La Riva with a cooperative partner sitting down: 6 each side.
