Underhook to dogfight to single leg

From the half guard underhook you come up onto your knee beside them (the dogfight) and turn it into a single leg. It's the main way to attack from half guard bottom.

Step by step

  1. Win the underhook from half guard bottom.
  2. Post your other hand and come up onto your side, then onto your knee, with your head tight to their chest (the dogfight).
  3. Keep the underhook high in their armpit and drive into them.
  4. Switch to a single leg (behind their knee) or reach behind their far hip and come up on top.
  5. Drive them to the mat and land in side control.

Details that make it work

  • Your head works like a third arm. Keep it inside, against their chest.
  • Come up fast. If they whizzer, they'll flatten you.

Common mistakes

  • Leaving your head on the mat.
  • Letting them whizzer and crossface.

Drill it
