Arm drag to the back

You pull their arm across your body and step behind them. It works standing or seated and is one of the fastest routes to the back.

Step by step

  1. Grab their wrist with your opposite hand (cross grip).
  2. Reach across with your other hand and grab their triceps, just above the elbow.
  3. Pull the arm across your body as you step your hips to the outside, letting their arm go past you.
  4. Step behind them and lock your hands around their waist (body lock).
  5. Bring them down with a mat return or by sitting down and putting in a hook.

Details that make it work

  • Pull the arm across and down toward your hip, not up.
  • You move to their back. Don't just pull them past you.

Common mistakes

  • Dragging with your arm while your feet stay planted.
  • Letting go of the triceps too early.
