Arm-trap rear-naked choke

You pin one of their arms with your leg so they have one hand to stop the choke. Use it when they hand fight well and block your rear-naked choke.

Step by step

  1. From back control, they defend your choking arm with both hands.
  2. With your bottom hand, grab their wrist on that side and pull it down to their hip.
  3. Lift your leg on that side over their forearm and pin it with your calf, foot hooked behind their thigh.
  4. Now they have one hand to defend. Slide your choking arm under their chin and grab your other biceps.
  5. Put your free hand behind their head.
  6. Squeeze your elbows together and expand your chest slowly until they tap.

Details that make it work

  • Your elbow goes under the chin. If you are on the jaw, stop and adjust.
  • Pin the arm with your leg, not your hand, so both hands are free for the choke.

Common mistakes

  • Cranking on the jaw instead of choking the neck.
  • Trapping the arm high near the shoulder, where they pull it free.

Drill it

10 slow reps each side, then 2 rounds of 2 minutes from back control.
