Armbar from closed guard

You isolate one arm and straighten it across your hips while your legs control their head and body. Use it when they push on your chest or leave one arm extended.

Step by step

  1. Control one arm at the wrist and hold it to your chest.
  2. Put your foot on their hip on the side of that arm, and hip out to that side.
  3. Pivot so your body is perpendicular to theirs; swing your other leg over their head.
  4. Pinch your knees together, their thumb pointing up.
  5. Lift your hips slowly. The tap comes fast.

Details that make it work

  • Spin your whole body, don't just swing a leg.
  • Keep their elbow tight against your hips.

Common mistakes

  • Leaving space between your hips and their shoulder.
  • Holding the arm with the thumb pointing sideways.
