Front headlock chain: guillotine, d'arce, anaconda & go-behind

Guillotine, d'arce, anaconda and go-behind linked off their reactions. Use it every time you land a front headlock from a snap-down or sprawl.

Front Headlock Chain - Ross Nicholls · London Grapple · YouTube

Step by step

  1. From front headlock, chin strap with one arm and control their near arm with the other. Hips back, weight on their head.
  2. If their head is low and both arms are out, wrap the neck for a guillotine.
  3. If they drive into you with their near arm forward, thread your arm under that arm and around the neck for a d'arce.
  4. If they sit back or turn heavy onto their knees, thread the same arm for the anaconda and roll them over the trapped arm.
  5. If they lift their head or turn into you to defend, spin behind for the go-behind and take the back.
  6. Whichever choke you land, finish slowly and give them time to tap.

Details that make it work

  • Their reaction picks the attack. Keep your weight on their head while you read it.
  • Every choke failure is a back take if you keep the headlock.

Common mistakes

  • Pulling them on top of you with a bad guillotine and losing the position.
  • Letting your hips sit close to their head, so they shoot your legs.

Drill it

Chain drill: partner shows one defense at a time, you switch attack. 5 slow cycles, then 3 × 1 min live from front headlock.
