FAR SIDE ARM BAR (Spinning Armbar) from KNEE ON BELLY · UnitedMartialArtsKY · YouTube · shown in the gi; the mechanics carry over

Step by step

  1. From side control, pop up and put your near knee on their belly, shin across their stomach, toes posted.
  2. Post your other leg wide toward their head. Keep your hips up and your weight on the knee.
  3. When they push on your knee or hip with their far arm, hug that arm to your chest at the elbow.
  4. Step your posted leg around their head and sit down on the far side.
  5. Swing your other leg off their belly and across their chest. Their arm is between your legs, thumb up.
  6. Pinch your knees and lift your hips slowly until they tap.

Details that make it work

  • Ride the knee, don't rest on it. Follow their hips if they move.
  • Keep the arm hugged the whole time you step around.

Common mistakes

  • Sitting back too far from their shoulder.
  • Letting go of the arm to step over.

Drill it

10 reps each side: knee on belly, partner pushes, you take the armbar slowly.
