Knee on belly escape
How to get out from under knee on belly: frame the knee, shrimp away and re-guard. Use it as soon as they pop up, before they settle.
Step by step
- Frame the moment they pop up: both hands on their knee and shin. Don't let them settle their weight.
- Turn onto your side toward them. Flat on your back is where knee on belly hurts.
- Push their knee down toward your hips while you shrimp your hips away from it.
- As their knee slides off your belly, bring your near knee into the space between you.
- Recover guard with your frames. If you can't get the knee in, turn to your knees.
Details that make it work
- Escape early. Each second they settle, the escape gets harder.
- Move your hips, not just your hands. The push makes space; the shrimp uses it.
Common mistakes
- Pushing their chest or face with straight arms (armbar).
- Pushing the knee without moving your hips.
Drill it
Partner holds knee on belly: 10 escapes each side, then 2 × 1 min positional.
If it fails, or what comes next
