Kneebar from outside position (ashi)
You straighten their leg over your hips to attack the knee. Use it from outside ashi when they turn or try to free the leg, and only where your rules and coach allow it.
Leg entangle Submission
Step by step
- From outside ashi, with their leg between yours, hug their foot at your armpit.
- Wrap both arms around their shin, their heel by your shoulder, the leg tight to your chest.
- Slide your hips up their leg until your hips are just above their knee.
- Cross your feet over their thigh and pinch your knees so the knee can't slide out.
- Turn so their kneecap points at your belly, not sideways.
- Finish very slowly: pull their ankle toward your shoulder and push your hips forward a little at a time. They tap early.
Details that make it work
- Hips above the knee. On the shin there's no lever.
- Kneecap at your belly. A knee turned sideways twists instead of straightening.
Common mistakes
- Cranking fast. The knee can be hurt before it hurts.
- Leaving your hips below their knee and pulling with your arms.
Drill it
Only with coach approval: 5 slow reps each side, partner taps at the first pressure.
