Pendulum (flower) sweep from closed guard
You trap an arm, lift the opposite leg, and swing your leg to roll them into mount. Use it when they keep good base in your closed guard but leave one arm on your chest.
Step by step
- Break their posture. Trap one of their arms to your chest with the hand on that side.
- Reach your other arm under their opposite leg and cup behind the knee.
- Open your guard and angle your hips a little so you can lift that leg.
- Swing your leg on the side of the leg you hold up and over in a big arc, like a pendulum.
- At the same time, chop your other leg against their knee on the trapped-arm side and lift their leg with your arm.
- They roll toward the trapped arm. Follow the roll and come up in mount.
Details that make it work
- Keep the arm trapped. If they can post that hand, they won't go over.
- The leg swing does the work. Your arm only guides.
Common mistakes
- Letting go of the arm during the roll.
- Trying to lift their whole body with your arm.
Drill it
10 sweeps each side, holding mount for 3 seconds after each.
