Shin-to-shin to single-leg X
A simple entry from seated guard: shin against their shin, grab the ankle, and pull yourself underneath into single-leg X. It's the main way into no-gi leg attacks.
Step by step
- From seated guard, put your shin against the inside of their lead shin and grab that ankle.
- Sit in close; slide your other foot to their far hip or behind their knee.
- Lift with your shin while pulling the ankle, then bring your outside leg across their hip.
- Lock single-leg X: their foot under your armpit, inside foot on their hip, outside leg across their butt.
- Off-balance them to the mat, or come up to a takedown if they stay standing.
Details that make it work
- Pull yourself under them before you lift. Distance kills this entry.
- Hug the foot to your chest to keep the leg.
Common mistakes
- Entering from too far away.
- Letting their knee slip out past your hip.
