Step by step

  1. Hands first: grab the wrist of the arm around your neck and pull it off your throat.
  2. Head up: step your feet under your hips to restore posture.
  3. Against a guillotine, keep fighting the choking hand, chin tucked, and turn your head into their chest; don't pull straight back.
  4. Re-shoot when they lift, or sit to guard if you can't free your head.

Details that make it work

  • Your hands protect your neck before anything else.
  • Get your feet under you. On your knees you're stuck.
