50/50: entry, sweep and heel exposure

A mirrored leg entanglement where both of you have the same leg trapped. Use it to sweep a standing opponent and to expose their heel, but hide your own heel first.

Step by step

  1. From single-leg X or shin-to-shin, hug their leg and swing your outside leg over their thigh.
  2. Triangle your legs around their leg above the knee: your foot behind your other knee. Their leg and yours now mirror each other.
  3. Hide your own heel straight away: point your toes and keep your foot turned so they can't cup it.
  4. Sweep: pull their trapped leg to your chest and push their other leg away. They sit down.
  5. Come up on your elbow and keep the triangle tight. Their heel is now at your chest.
  6. Trap the toes under your armpit, cup the heel and lock your hands. Finish slowly with a small turn of your chest, or stand up and pass if heel hooks are off.

Details that make it work

  • In 50/50 they have the same attacks as you. Defend your heel before you attack theirs.
  • Triangle above the knee. Lock too low and the knee slips out.

Common mistakes

  • Attacking the heel while your own foot is exposed.
  • Lying flat on your back, which gives them the first move.
